Multiplication Games

Multiplication games that will teach:

7's

Crazy Math Mom Tip
Every week is 7 days, so we play simple multiplication games when we are counting down to a special event or holiday. For example, what holiday is 6 weeks away? How many days is that....(7 x 6 = 42)? How many week until the end of the school year? How many days?

Okay -- the bad news: "tricks" or multiplication games to figure out the 6's, 7's and 8's are scarce. But, look at what we already know:

(1). So far we know 0's, 1's, 2's,3's,4's,5's,6's that means they know: 7x0, 7x1, 7x2, 7x3, 7x4, 7x5, 7x6.

(2). Later you will learn strategies for : 9's, 10's, 11's, and 12's.

(3). That leaves us with two problems: 7x7 and 7x8!

Here are two poems to help remember these two equations:

7 x 7 Poem

Seven and seven were doing fine. 7 times 7 is 49

7 x 8 Poem

7 and 8 lay some bricks. 7 times 8 is fifty-six.

Here is a song to help- kids really like this one:

To the tune of " The Wheels on the Bus"

The 7's on the bus go (the wheels on the bus go)
7,14 7, 14, 7 ,14 ( go round and round, round and round, round and round)
The 7's on the bus go 7, 14 all through the town. ( the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town)

The 7's on the bus go (the wheels on the bus go)
21, 27, 21, 27, 21, 27 ( go round and round, round and round,round and round)
The 7's on the bus go 21, 27 all through the town. ( the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town)

The 7's on the bus go (the wheels on the bus go)35, 42, 35, 42, 35, 42 ( go round and round, round and round, round and round)The 7's on the bus go 35, 42 all through the town. ( the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town)

The 7's on the bus go (the wheels on the bus go)49, 56, 49, 56, 49 ,56 ( go round and round, round and round, round and round)The 7's on the bus go 49, 56 all through the town. ( the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town)

The 7's on the bus (the wheels on the bus go) kick out 63, kick out 63, kick out 63 ( go round and round, round and round, round and round)The 7's on the bus kick out 63, because the bus is full. ( the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town)

Give your child lots of practice playing multiplication games using the strategy they like best.

DON'T FORGET..... although multiplication is communicative (2 x 6 = 6 x 2) they look different in real life. For example, 2 six packs of soda would be 6x2 while, 6 packs of Hostess cupcakes (come in 2's) would be 2x6. It is good to make multiplication problems correct so there is no confusion later on.
