Multiplication games like these will teach your child to:
Skip count forwards and backwards by 2,3,4,5,10,100,1000.
Note: If your child has had experiences playing multiplication games with 100's and 1000's charts this is a breeze. If not you can use a 100's and 1000's chart to teach kids the patterns of skip counting. Just looking at the chart and counting by 2's, 4's,etc. What patterns do they make?
Skip forward and backward
Skip count while you are walking up stairs, go backward down the stairs ( be sure to walk not skip down) skip counting backwards.
Use movement to skip count. In the car when the kids get antsy we use movement to skip count. These super simple multiplication games are a ton of fun:
Try to: Snap, clap, tap (knees) by any number. Have your kids make up movements as you skip count- it's simple but it works!
After the kids get the hang of it, if we say the wrong number then we have to start over. On long rides we have competitions to see who can come up with the best movements while skip counting (these get really creative since you have to stay in your seat).
Use the Skip Counting songs (below)
Challenge: Can you sing the songs while jumping rope?
